Who We Are

Devon  Flow Plumbing Solutions is an independent plumbing business founded and operated by Desmond Ala, a fully qualified plumbing engineer with over 25 years of hands-on experience across domestic, commercial, and specialist plumbing sectors.

Desmond began his career in London, Kent, and Essex, where he completed his apprenticeship and worked as a CSCS-certified plumber on major building sites. His early work included installing water supply systems, sanitary fittings, drainage networks, and carrying out first and second fix plumbing to exacting standards. He later transitioned into domestic maintenance plumbing with Dyno Plumbing, including British Gas HomeServe, delivering reliable repairs and installations for homes across the region, from water tanks and pipework to emergency leak response and working hot water systems.

His commercial experience includes work with Wilmott Dixon and Metro Plumb, where he installed and maintained large-scale water systems, drainage infrastructure, and fire suppression systems in banks, cafés, hotels, and other high-traffic environments. Desmond also served as an in-house plumber for Mordon College, maintaining water systems for a large residential care facility and completing specialist training in dementia awareness and safeguarding.

Since relocating to the South-West, Desmond has continued to expand his expertise, working with Churchills Environmental Services as a Commercial Legionella Plumber. His responsibilities included conducting Legionella risk assessments, system disinfection, temperature monitoring, and ensuring full compliance with HSE’s ACoP L8 and COSHH regulations.

Desmond holds an NVQ Level II in Mechanical Engineering (Plumbing) (10032848) and is certified in HWSS Hot Water Systems & Safety (G3 Unvented HWS), valid through January 2030. He is fully insured with Public Liability Insurance, offering customers peace of mind and reinforcing his commitment to safety, compliance, and professional integrity.
